Crows great Tony Modra is continuing his recovery after suffering serious facial injuries in a truck crash, and he has spoken from this hospital bed via an audio message to fans.
Close friend and former teammate Mark Ricciuto played the audio message on Kayo Sports pre-game.
“He didn’t look the same and didn’t sound the same, but he was in good spirits,” Ricciuto told Kayo Sports.
“I can’t describe with the same words how much he said it hurt, but he did say that he now knows how Dean Kemp felt [when the former West Coast star copped that famous hit].”
Modra sent an audio message from his hospital bed, thanking fans for their support since his accident and wishing the teams well tonight.
“G’day, everybody,” he started.
“I’m really looking forward to watching tonight’s Showdown.
“I’ve heard I’ve had a lot of support, not just Crows fans, but Port fans as well, so I’d just like to thank everybody, [and I] hope everyone has a great night.
“[I’m] looking forward to the friendly banter and the two teams putting on a great show for South Australia. Enjoy the game, and make sure you drive home safe.”
Modra also made a point of thanking all the medical professionals who helped him at Victor Harbor and in Adelaide.
